Superdream 250

We purchase a running CB250 for the lad for when he’s passed his A2 licence. It needed a few little jobs doing which rapidly expanded!!…..

The first issue being an oil leak which seemed quite bad from the head joint. It transpired that the head was warped to the tune of 0.003″

So, with some trepidation, I undertook my first ever head skim

With the head sorted, we check over the cylinders only to find some excessive ring gaps. Time to take some measurement and consult the service books

Piston rings and circlips arrived, we go through the process of starting the rebuild and nearly cause the engine to be fully stripped!!

So, the rebuild is completed. Few little bits still to do, but nothing major. I runs, and is now ready to run in.

We will be going through heat cycles to run it in. The first was to have it ticking over to check for oil leaks etc making sure the engine gets hot. Next will be get it off the ramp and run it round the yard a few times then let it cool again. Then it will be up and down the road. A total of about 6 heat cycles should do it, then it will be retorque, check for leaks and away she goes gradually increasing engine load.
